The Fredericton Simpson Royals dropped consecutive games, and the Chatham Miramichi Honda Ironmen lost two of three.
The Alpines (4-1) improved to first in the league after sweeping a doubleheader against Chatham (3-5) June 14 at Ironmen Field. Saint John took the opening game 4-2 and edged the Ironmen 4-3 in the second matchup.
Meanwhile, the Royals (2-4) suffered an 8-1 setback at the hands of the Ironmen on Friday the 13th at Royals Field and fell 13-3 to the Mets (3-6) Sunday at Kiwanis Park. Earlier in the week Moncton lost 9-3 to the two-time defending champs, the Charlottetown Gaudet’s Auto Body Islanders (6-2), June 11 at home.
The June 12 showdown between the Mets and Alpines at Memorial Field was postponed. No makeup date has been set.
The Mets will be in Charlottetown Tuesday for a 7:30 p.m. date with the Islanders at Victoria Park. The Ironmen and Mets will face off Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in Moncton, and Chatham will host the Islanders Thursday for an 8 p.m. date. The Royals and Alpines will hit the field Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Fredericton.
The Ironmen and Alpines will renew acquaintances in a doubleheader Saturday at 2 p.m. in Saint John. The Mets and Royals will do battle June 22 at 4 p.m.
In New Brunswick Junior Baseball League action, the Saint John Doiron Sports Alpines (6-3) stayed hot with wins in two of their three games over the last week.
The Alpines swept a doubleheader Sunday at home against the Chatham O’Donaghue’s Ironmen (0-7), winning 14-4 in the first game and 5-4 in the second. That followed an 8-7 loss to the Fredericton Simpson Junior Royals (5-2) June 12 at Royals Field.
The Royals also downed the Ironmen 7-6 June 12 in the province’s capital, and Chatham lost 4-0 to the Mudcats June 11 at home.
This week, Moncton’s Metro Mudcats (3-2) and the Ironmen will meet Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in Miramichi, and the Royals and Alpines will face off at 7:30 p.m. in Fredericton. Thursday’s games will feature the Alpines and Mudcats at 7:30 p.m. in the Hub City and the Royals and Ironmen at 7:30 p.m. in Fredericton.
The Grand Falls McCain Cataractes (7-0) remain undefeated in the Capital City Intermediate Baseball League after defeating the Fredericton Nissan Astros in consecutive home games last week at Veterans Field.
The Cataractes prevailed by a 6-3 margin on Friday the 13th before blanking the Astros (1-5) 8-0 the following day.
The defending champ Woodstock Shiretowners (6-1) tripped the Devon Boys Lawn Care Orioles (2-3) 10-8 June 12 at Dale Allen Field.
The game scheduled for June 10 between the Fredericton Launchpad Sports Expos (1-5) and Oromocto Veteran Farmer Pioneers (0-3) was postponed.
The Orioles and Expos will play Monday at 6 p.m. at Royals Field, and the Shiretowners and Cataractes will meet at 7 p.m. in Woodstock. The Astros will be in Oromocto Tuesday at 6 p.m., and the Expos and Orioles have a 6:30 p.m. meeting at Royals Field. The Expos will be in Woodstock Thursday at 7:30 p.m. before taking on the Orioles Friday at 6 p.m. at Deer Park in Oromocto.
The Cataractes and Pioneers are slated for a doubleheader June 22 at noon in Oromocto.
The Dieppe Cardinals (3-0) are off to a strong start in the Southern New Brunswick Baseball League.
The Cardinals swept the Lancaster Stingrays in a doubleheader June 14 at the Senior Lions Field, winning 15-4 and 8-4.
The Hampton Guardians (1-3) and Saint John Mariners (2-1) played to a 7-7 draw June 12 in Hampton.
The KV Red Sox (2-2) were idle last week after their game against the Cardinals June 12 at Lakeburn Park was postponed. No makeup date has been announced.
The Red Sox and Angels will meet Monday at 7:30 p.m. at Memorial Field, and the Red Sox will entertain the Stingrays Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at Wells Recreational Field. KV will face the Guardians Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in Hampton, and the Angels will be in Dieppe at 8 p.m.
The Cardinals will visit Hampton Friday at 6:30 p.m. The Angels and Stingrays are slated for a noon doubleheader Saturday, and the Red Sox will take on the Mariners June 22 at 7:30 p.m.
One game currently separates first place from fourth in the Miramichi Valley Baseball League, which saw the Newcastle A&B Lumber Cardinals (3-3) topple the Chatham Head Tigers (3-2) 15-5 June 11 at Memorial Field and suffer a 5-4 setback at the hands of the Dalhousie Dodgers (2-3) June 13 on the road.
The defending champ Tracadie Aigles (2-2) also downed the Dodgers 12-5 June 12 at home.
The June 10 showdown between the Tigers and Aigles in Chatham Head was rained out. A makeup date hasn’t been announced yet.
This week, the Cardinals and Tigers will rematch Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in Chatham Head. The Aigles will be in Dalhousie Tuesday at 8 p.m. for the first game in a home-and-home series. The second contest is Thursday at 8 p.m. in Tracadie.
