The New Brunswick Men’s team fell 5-4 to the Ontario Host Men’s team on Saturday at Bert Lacasse Park, despite out-hitting them eight to seven. Cole MacLaren led New Brunswick with two hits.
New Brunswick got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after singles by Cole MacLaren and Duncan Picketts, followed by a ground out from Jonathan Arsenault, each scoring one run.
Ontario Host took the lead, 4-3, in the top of the fifth inning after Eric Cunningham singled and Dan Warkentin hit into a fielder’s choice, each driving in a run.
Nathan Van Putten started on the mound for New Brunswick, allowing five hits and four runs over five innings, striking out nine and walking one. Jordan Townshend started for Ontario Host, giving up eight hits and four runs over six innings, striking out four and walking one.
Jonathan Arsenault went 1-for-3 at the plate and led the team with two RBIs. New Brunswick was sure-handed in the field, committing no errors. Cole MacLaren had the most chances in the field with 10.
Dan Warkentin provided power in the middle of the lineup for Ontario Host, leading the team with two RBIs and going 1-for-4. Eric Cunningham went 2-for-3 to lead Ontario Host in hits. Ontario Host turned two double plays and committed no errors, with Josh Anderson having the most chances in the field with five.
