Picketts Leads New Brunswick Men Past Newfoundland and Labrador Men

Duncan Picketts had a stellar performance, going 3-for-3 as the New Brunswick Men's team defeated the Newfoundland and Labrador Men's team 6-4 on Thursday at Woodslee Park, Reg Chevalier Field. Picketts hit a solo home run to right field in the seventh inning, doubled in the fifth, and singled in the first.

New Brunswick jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning, scoring two runs on an error and another on a single by Jonathan Arsenault.

Dylan MacKenzie helped Newfoundland and Labrador tie the game at three in the bottom of the second with a ground out.

Newfoundland and Labrador took the lead in the bottom of the third when Eric McKay hit into a fielder's choice, scoring one run to make it 4-3.

New Brunswick regained the lead, 5-4, in the top of the fifth with a double by Duncan Picketts and a sacrifice fly by Ryne MacIsaac, each driving in a run.

Picketts added a solo home run to right field in the top of the seventh to extend New Brunswick's lead.

Brody McDonald earned the win for New Brunswick, allowing four hits and four runs (two earned) over five innings, striking out two and walking two. Ryan Morgan took the loss for Newfoundland and Labrador, giving up five runs (one earned) on seven hits over four and two-thirds innings, striking out one and walking four. Nathan Van Putten collected the save.

New Brunswick amassed 12 hits in the game. Logan MacDougall and Duncan Picketts each drove in two runs. Jonathan Arsenault, Max Grant, and Ryne MacIsaac each had multiple hits.

Tyler Walchuk, Dylan MacKenzie, Grant Kenny, and Jacob Reid each collected one hit for Newfoundland and Labrador. Dylan MacKenzie and Eric McKay each drove in a run.

Next up for New Brunswick is a game against British Columbia on Friday.
