Islanders, Ironmen up 2-1 in senior baseball semifinals

The semifinal series in the New Brunswick Senior Baseball League are led 2-1 by the Charlottetown Gaudet’s Auto Body Islanders and Chatham Miramichi Honda Ironmen after the first three games.

The Ironmen pulled ahead in the best-of-seven series with a 14-6 win over the Moncton Dixie Lee Mets in Game 3 Monday at Kiwanis Park. Chatham evened things up with a 5-4 triumph Sunday in Game 2 at Ironmen Field. Moncton took the first game 6-2 Sept. 6 at home.

The defending champ Islanders beat the Fredericton St. Louis Bar and Grill Royals 4-1 in Game 3 Monday at Victoria Park after winning 3-0 Sunday at Royals Field to knot up the series. Fredericton took the series opener 5-1 Sept. 6 at Victoria Park.

Game 4 between the Islanders and Royals goes Wednesday at 8 p.m. at Royals Field, followed by Game 5 Thursday at 8 p.m. on Prince Edward Island.

If needed, the series will return to Fredericton for Game 6 Saturday at 8 p.m. Game 7 is Sunday at 7 p.m. at Victoria Park, if necessary.

Game 4 of the Chatham-Moncton series slated for Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in Miramichi. Game 5 is Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in Moncton.

Intermediate provincial schedule tweaked

After most of the weekend games at the 2024 New Brunswick Intermediate Baseball Championships in Saint John and Rothesay were rained out, the rest of the tournament is now being staggered throughout this week.

The Newcastle Mike’s Bar and Grill Cardinals fell 8-1 to the Tracadie Aigles Monday in a rematch of the Miramichi Valley Baseball League final in Tracadie. The Fredericton Launchpad Sports Expos downed the Woodstock Shiretowners 11-8 Monday at Royals Field.

Newcastle opened the tournament with a 5-1 win over the Shiretowners and a 5-2 loss to the Dieppe Cardinals. The host KV Red Sox beat Woodstock 6-3. The Expos will host Dieppe at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Memorial Field in Saint John.

The Expos and Aigles were the only teams that hadn’t played before the original schedule at Memorial and Wells Recreational Field was washed out.
